Thank you everyone for coming out to the desert! We are happy that we had such a good turnout. Eric Bone from the Cascade Orienteering Club in Seattle and Vladimir Gusiatnikov from the Bay Area Orienteering Club in San Francisco showed us all how it is done by posting the best score by far. Also from Cascade Orienteering Club, Jennifer Knowles and Victoria Campbell were the top women's team and 4th place overall. In one of the most important competitions of the day, Bend based Old BARK, who won the master's mixed category, defeated Young BARK for the coveted free beer on the vanquished prize.
I was able to piece together some splits from the intention sheets. Some of the calculations are rough especially for those teams that forgot to sign in once in awhile. Also, a few teams forgot to punch in at some of the controls, but did sign the intention sheet. I'm going to grant you the points given that I am a kind, benevolent, handsome meet director. At most events this would just be your tough luck, so remember to punch that card! One beneficiary of the new found points is the team of Mandy Giblin, Dean Giblin, and Larry Winarski who moved up from 2nd place to become the winners of the open mixed category.
Veteran Mal Harding and Les Stark took first place in the master's men category and 5th place overall. If you want another event like this, Mal (CROC) is hosting another rogaine near Antelope in June.
Thank you to Sweet Plum Adventure who brought some yummy goodies for everyone. Thank you to the Fort Rock Ranger District who allowed us to have the event at Arnold Ice Cave.
Special thanks to Andy Dale, Ben Legg, Eric Osborn, and Larry O'Neill who slaved away putting out controls, picking them up, and manning the event center. My lovely wife, Paula, was indispensable with her organization skills. And of course, Annie, who kept me company while scouting and woofing in my ear when people arrived at the group camp.
